Chronic pain following revision of total knee arthroplasty: evidence for widespread sensitization
The Pain in Motion website has highlighted repeatedly the importance of altered central nervous system pain processing
in patients with osteoarthritis (please refer to http://www.paininmotion.be/EN/news-unilateral-osteo.html
and http://www.paininmotion.be/EN/news-osteoarthritis.html).
New compelling data from the famous Center for Sensory-Motor Interaction at Aalborg University in Denmark point
towards widespread sensitization in those patients who had undergone revision of their total knee arthroplasty
and experience chronic pain (Skou et al. Pain 2013;154(9):1588-94).
The authors feel that this is important when considering revision arthroplasty in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.
